It is a Doom 3 total conversionbut does not require Doom 3 to run as they have essentially created anentirely new game out of the original source code and changed everythingelse as well.
As they explain.' Arx - End Of Sun is a new free and fan made game that is based on thefirst person dungeon RPG: Arx Fatalis developed by Arkane Studios. In ourgame world you will play out the events ( with a liberal dose of poeticlicence ) that precede the original story of Arx Fatalis. You will no longerrequire a copy of Doom3 to play Arx - End Of Sun.
We are now running on acustom version of the engine code and we use no assets from any commercialtitles in our game. It's called 'perfected doom3'. From the description:it attempts tocompletely overhaul the entire game with new monsters, rebalancedweapons, rebalanced monster stats, better graphics, new gameplayfeatures such as “Deadly Attacks,” blood and gore tweaks, ragdolltweaks, map tweaks, and more.

It's called doom3: phobos and takes place between doom3and roe. The creators state it has been in development for 8 yearsand rumor has it that it might actually get released (finally) thisyear. You can get the full low down onThis mod is attempting to get all the creaturesand weapons and such from Quake and place them into the Doom3 environment. Igotta tell ya - they're off to a great start. The first map for the project iscalled Shamblers Castle.
Have fun!I can't even begin toexplain how excited I was when I came across this project. This total conversionfor Doom3 is absolutely incredible and deserves all the attention I can draw toit. It's called Phantasm for Doom3 and is based off one of the great cult horrorflicks of all time. If you've never seen it, I suggest googling it and findingwhat it's all about.

The guy developing this Doom 3 conversion doesn't have his ownwebsite but posts his pics and links to downloads on Planetdoom.I thought this was dead in the water but the author emailed methe other day to let me know that the project is still very much alivebut is going to take awhile. The developers were clearly inspired by Thief and they’ve given the game a complete overhaul with new models, textures, AI, weapons and even a new HUD. As is often the case with ambitious modifications it is taking a long time to develop, but they have recently released a demo mission called and it shows off some of their new features and gives gamers a flavour of how the completed mod will play. Into Cerberonis aiming to provide gamers with Descent style game-play so they can fly around spooky Doom 3 interiors with six-degrees of control allowing them to roll, tilt, yaw and slide in any direction. You pilot a small spaceship with a range of weaponry and you can play through a single player campaign or face off against your mates in multiplayer battles.
Recall to HellThis is an impressive looking single player experience which offers gamers an intense and horrific adventure. New maps, weapons, characters, sound and an in depth story are promised. However at the moment all you can get your hands on are some screenshots and a trailer.
The developers promise that work is continuing and if it does finally get released this promises to be a worthwhile. Other Mods for Doom 3There are many more out there, from conversions which emulate earlier Doom games and other classics like Resident Evil to completely new game designs implemented using the engine. There are also several mods for people who want specific features of the game tweaked so you’ll find mods that only modify the weapons or mods that tweak the shaders. Naturally the quality is never as high as a commercial title as mods are typically developed by amateurs. Sometimes as a way to break into the industry, and sometimes simply for fun, but since they are free you shouldn’t be too critical.With such a wealth of choice whatever your tastes you are sure to be able find something that interests you.
